Polished concrete floor has a brilliant aesthetic, but it is the type of finish which gives the overall appeal and is often regarded as the most important part. Depending on the type of space and budget you are working with, several finishes are available. When working to build your space, it is important to remember that the higher the grit used, the glossier the floor finish.

Types of Finishes

Concrete floor - Matte finish

Matte

A matte concrete finish has a soft, industrial appearance with no light refraction. It is a great option for floors with lots of natural light exposure. The result will be slightly hazy with a softer appeal. Matte finish is best suited to industrial or commercial spaces as it has minimal exposure and a low-sheen result, which is perfect for warehouses. Matte finishes can also mask existing imperfections in the floor and are a great choice for outdoor areas. This finish is also a great option for cafes or modern homes where a rustic appeal is desired.

Concrete floor - satin finish

Satin

A Satin finish is a low-sheen finish that has an understated gloss result and minimal light overhead reflection. It is a great option for residential spaces to create a subtle and refined feel. This finish also works well in commercial spaces (such as showrooms) that have varied lighting and look fantastic with down lights to create ambience and a modern-feel.

Concrete floor - Glossy finish

Gloss

A gloss finish introduces a glass-like polish to the floor. The result will be a highly-reflective, high-exposure floor with increased light refraction. The ultimate statement floor which provides a luxurious, modern and stylish feel. Customisations for gloss flooring can be medium/semi or high gloss.

Medium/semi-gloss finishes work well in retail spaces, bars and pubs or restaurants where a feature floor is desired. An added benefit is that they are the easiest maintain.
High gloss floors work well in spaces that require a wet-look and maximum impact and appeal. They are the most common finish and work well in all residential and commercial spaces, but are particularly used to brighten spaces.
