Grind & Seal

Grind and seal is an alternative to mechanical concrete polished floors, but it produces a very similar result. It is considered to be more economical and can offer the same high-shine result of a polished concrete floor.

This process involves two steps. Firstly, the existing concrete is ground down using a gradated diamond pad. Secondly, a Polyurethane or epoxy sealant is applied to the floor.

The high-shine mirrored look is achieved by the sealer, rather than the gradual grinding process applied with the polished concrete method.
Customisations can be achieved with the type and colour of the sealant, as well as the aggregate selection.

Why Choose Grind & Seal?

  • Grind and seal will achieve the high-shine finish of a mechanical polished floor and the finish can be customised to achieve a specific style or look. However, as there are only 2 steps, it is less labour-intensive and is a cheaper alternative.
  • Similar to mechanical polishing, the concrete remains highly durable and is resistant to dents and scratches. However, the life expectancy and overall durability is slightly lower than with polished concrete flooring.
  • It is also stain resistant as the final result is non-porous meaning that it has an added benefit of being anti-bacterial. The application of the sealant means that the grind and seal approach has a more consistent overall finish and is a good choice for commercial spaces (especially bathrooms that require optimal stain and water resistance).
